Man detained after throwing three-year-old into crocodile enclosure at UK zoo

A 30-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of attempted murder after throwing a three-year-old boy into a crocodile enclosure at a zoo in Cambridgeshire, England. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at Johnson’s Zoo, located approximately 130 kilometres north of London (Ilta-Sanomat).

The boy, who was not known to the suspect, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital in a critical but stable condition, according to police (Yle). Authorities are investigating whether the child was attacked by the animals in the enclosure (Yle).

Detective Verity McCann stated that there is no evidence the man and the child were acquainted (Yle). The suspect is from the nearby county of Norfolk (Yle).

Police were deployed in large numbers to the scene following the incident (Ilta-Sanomat). Investigators are reviewing accounts from witnesses who were present at the zoo at the time (Ilta-Sanomat).
