Motorcyclist arrested in Helsinki after high-speed police chase

A motorcyclist in his 40s was arrested on Saturday evening in Vuosaari after fleeing from police at excessive speeds through several districts in Eastern Helsinki. The pursuit began when authorities attempted to stop the driver, who then accelerated away from Kontulantie toward Mellunmäki (Ilta-Sanomat).

The chase continued through Vesala before reaching Vuosaari, where the motorcyclist reportedly drove on light traffic paths multiple times, endangering pedestrians in the area. Ilta-Sanomat reports that police eventually intercepted the driver on Kallvikintie, with the arrest causing temporary traffic congestion on Vuosaari Bridge. A reader-submitted video of the arrest was obtained by the publication.

According to the Helsinki Police Command Center, the pursuit concluded by 9:00 PM (Yle). The suspect faces charges of aggravated endangerment of traffic safety, drunk driving, and operating a vehicle without authorization, though the charges may be updated as the preliminary investigation proceeds (Ilta-Sanomat).
