An unexploded World War II-era aerial bomb has been found in Maksniemi, Simo, during maintenance work on a railway line. The discovery was made near Torviaavantie, close to the railway, prompting immediate action from authorities.

Police have established a 300-meter danger zone around the site and cordoned off the area. Residents within the zone have been evacuated as a precaution. Authorities are urging the public to avoid the Torviaavantie area to ensure safety (Helsingin Sanomat; Ilta-Sanomat).

A clearance team from the Finnish Defence Forces is en route to the location to assess and dispose of the bomb. The device was uncovered during routine railway repair work, according to reports from Lapland Police (Ilta-Sanomat; MTV Uutiset).

No injuries or immediate threats have been reported, but the situation remains under close monitoring by authorities. The discovery highlights the ongoing risks posed by unexploded ordnance from past conflicts in Finland.
