Fatal Hit-and-Run Incidents in Kuusankoski and Helsinki Leave Three Dead

A pedestrian was killed in a traffic accident in Kuusankoski, Kouvola, early Saturday morning after being struck by a van at a pedestrian crossing. The incident occurred at approximately 1:45 AM at the intersection of Kyminkatu and Kymintehtaantie. According to the Southeast Finland Police Department, the van was traveling along Kyminkatu toward Kuusaantie when it collided with the pedestrian, who died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver fled but was apprehended shortly afterward. Ilta-Sanomat reports that the suspect, believed to have been heavily intoxicated, was detained.
