Woman Injured in Hit-and-Run Incident in Sysmä

A woman was hospitalized after being struck by a car in Sysmä on Saturday morning, in an incident police are investigating as aggravated endangerment of traffic safety and causing bodily injury. The driver fled the scene without stopping.

The collision occurred at approximately 10:45 AM on Vääksyntie, near Virta Bridge, as the woman was walking along the left side of the road in the direction of Vääksy. According to MTV Uutiset, the side mirror on the co-driver’s side of an oncoming passenger car struck her arm with enough force to detach the mirror, which fell to the ground. The impact left the woman with injuries requiring medical treatment.

The driver of the car, described as gray and likely a Peugeot, continued toward Sysmä after the incident. Ilta-Sanomat reports that the vehicle has a distinctive black horizontal stripe on its rear and is missing the side mirror on the passenger side.
