Middle-aged man drowns in Kajaani River
A middle-aged man drowned in the Kajaani River on Tuesday evening, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred near the city’s market square, where emergency services were dispatched following an emergency call at around 6:00 PM.
The Oulu Police Department reported that the man had gone swimming before submerging beneath the surface (Yle). Rescue teams, including police and emergency medical units, responded to the scene and retrieved the man from the water. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead (MTV Uutiset).
The Kajaani River flows adjacent to the market square, where the incident took place. Police are conducting a death cause inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the drowning (Yle).
