Psychiatrist withdraws claim against murdered wife’s estate in Helsinki court case
A 51-year-old forensic psychiatrist, Roope Bob Tikkanen, has withdrawn his legal claim against the estate of his late wife, leaving the dispute unresolved. The withdrawal was confirmed by the Helsinki District Court on Tuesday, 30 June, after Tikkanen’s attorney submitted a formal notice stating that the plaintiff had no further demands in the matter (Ilta-Sanomat, Iltalehti).
Tikkanen had previously sought 390,000 euros in principal debt and over 24,000 euros in interest from his wife’s estate, along with coverage for potential litigation costs. The claim centered on a property in the Porvoo archipelago, purchased jointly by the couple in July 2021 for 750,000 euros. According to court documents, Tikkanen financed the property with a bank loan in his name alone and later demanded repayment from his wife, formalized in a promissory note signed on 15 July 2021. The note stipulated that she owed him half of the property’s value, including 15,000 euros in asset transfer tax, with a due date of 21 July 2024 (Ilta-Sanomat).
The property, named Berghäll, is located on a 3-hectare waterfront plot on a large island in the Porvoo archipelago. Property records show Tikkanen owns half of the estate, which includes a main building constructed in 1997 and several smaller outbuildings. The area is described as secluded, with the nearest neighbor obscured by woodland (Ilta-Sanomat).
Tikkanen was convicted of murdering his 47-year-old wife in their shared apartment in Ullanlinna on the night of 16 December 2022. The Supreme Court recently denied his leave to appeal, finalizing his life sentence (Ilta-Sanomat). During his Court of Appeal hearing in autumn 2025, Tikkanen was seen covering his face (Iltalehti).
