Man remanded in custody for attempted manslaughter in Kivistö stabbing
A man born in the 1980s has been remanded in custody on suspicion of attempted manslaughter after allegedly stabbing another man of the same age in Kivistö, Vantaa, on Tuesday, 23 June. The suspect was apprehended in Helsinki four days later, on 27 June, and was formally detained at the Itä-Uusimaa District Court on Wednesday, 1 July.
According to police, the two men had encountered each other near Kivistö station earlier that evening and spent time together in the same group. The motive behind the stabbing remains unclear. Iltalehti reports that the suspect has admitted to the act during police questioning. The preliminary investigation is ongoing, with authorities interviewing witnesses to gather further details.
Detective Chief Inspector Sanna Rentola, the lead investigator, stated that the evening "ended with the use of a bladed weapon against the complainant" (Ilta-Sanomat).
