Nordicshape’s Espoo beauty clinic files for bankruptcy following safety violations
The Espoo branch of beauty clinic Nordicshape has filed for bankruptcy, submitting a petition to the District Court of Western Uusimaa on Wednesday. The move follows a suspension of operations imposed earlier this year by the Licensing and Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira) due to serious patient safety violations.
Taloussanomat first reported the bankruptcy filing, which Nordicshape’s CEO Samuel Rossi described as a "technical procedure" aimed solely at closing the Espoo branch and terminating its lease agreement (Iltalehti). The Helsinki location, operated as a separate company, remains unaffected by the bankruptcy.
Safety violations led to suspension
Valvira ordered Nordicshape’s Espoo operations to halt in the spring after an unannounced inspection uncovered multiple breaches of safety regulations. Among the most severe findings was the use of medicinal substances without proper marketing authorization in patient treatments (Yle).
The authority also determined that botulinum toxin injections were administered without consistent medical supervision and that the clinic failed to provide evidence of staff competence for such procedures. Additionally, Nordicshape used unauthorized medicinal preparations, raising concerns about their contents and safety (Iltalehti).
During the inspection, Valvira reported that CEO Rossi initially responded to the findings with dismissive behavior, including laughter. In a later statement to Iltalehti, Rossi acknowledged operational deficiencies and claimed corrective measures had been implemented.
