Stabbing Incident in Joensuu Leaves Two Hospitalised, Police Dog Credited with Saving Life
Police in Eastern Finland are investigating a violent incident in Hammaslahti, Joensuu, that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning. The case involves two counts of attempted homicide and multiple assaults at a private event.
A 35-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man, both from Joensuu, sustained injuries from a bladed weapon and required hospital treatment. Neither victim is currently in life-threatening condition. MTV Uutiset reports that the suspected attacker, a 35-year-old man from Joensuu, knew both victims beforehand and has no prior criminal record.
The woman fled the scene into the surrounding terrain after being stabbed. A police dog located her, and authorities estimate that she would have died without the rapid intervention. Iltalehti reports that emergency medical care administered immediate first aid, stabilising her condition.
In addition to the two stabbing victims, police are investigating assaults on individuals who attempted to mediate the dispute. MTV Uutiset states that several people were taken into custody during the investigation, and police consider the sequence of events largely clarified. The suspect remains under investigation for attempted homicide and related assaults.
