Police apprehend fugitive in Western Tampere after six-month evasion
Police in Tampere successfully detained a man on Wednesday evening who had been evading a prison sentence for over six months. The operation, which involved the use of a drone, concluded with the individual’s arrest after he was found hiding in tall grass.
The Eastern Finland Police had been tracking the fugitive, who was wanted for failing to serve a 1.5-year prison sentence. A patrol was dispatched to a property in Western Tampere in the early evening, but upon arrival, officers suspected the man had fled upon noticing their presence (Yle).
The search continued for approximately an hour, during which a drone was deployed to scan the area. The drone operator located the man concealed in tall grass, allowing the patrol to apprehend him (Iltalehti). The individual was taken into custody and transported to begin serving his sentence.
Both Yle and Iltalehti confirm that the man had been evading authorities since his sentencing. The use of drone technology played a key role in his capture, demonstrating its growing importance in modern policing.
