Elderly man found drowned in Savitaipale
A man in his 70s was found drowned in the water in Savitaipale, South Karelia, on Friday evening. The incident was reported by the Southeast Finland Police, who are investigating the cause of the drowning.
The man was discovered approximately 25 meters from the shore, with a boat nearby. Yle reports that police are uncertain whether the man was moving by boat or if he had gone to retrieve a runaway vessel. No witnesses to the event have been identified, and authorities have ruled out foul play.
A bystander found the man in the water and alerted authorities shortly after 7:00 PM. According to Iltalehti, the individual who reported the incident had gone to search for the man. The police have confirmed that there is no suspicion of criminal activity in the case.
