Reeva Instant Noodles Cleared of Salmonella Suspicion After European Recall
Euro-East Oy, the Finnish distributor for the Reeva brand, has confirmed that the instant noodles subject to a salmonella-related recall in several European countries were never available for sale in Finland. Ilta-Sanomat reports that the company issued a statement clarifying the product’s absence from the Finnish market, despite widespread recalls elsewhere.
The recall was initiated after salmonella infections linked to Reeva noodles were reported in Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, and Lithuania. However, subsequent laboratory tests conducted by the manufacturer, Euro Food Service (EFS), found no traces of salmonella in the suspected batches. Iltalehti notes that production of the noodles has since resumed following the completion of investigations.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has reported over 100 salmonella infections across Europe since November, with cases tied to seasoned noodle products. The Salmonella enterica bacterium, specifically the Salmonella stanley variant, has been identified as the cause. According to the ECDC, the infections have disproportionately affected children and young adults, with nearly half of those infected requiring hospital treatment.
Cases have been recorded in 13 countries, including several Nordic nations, all Baltic states, as well as France and Germany. Despite the widespread outbreak, no infections have been reported in Finland (Iltalehti).
