Traficom allocates nearly €8 million in state aid for newspaper distribution
The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom has granted state aid to ensure the distribution of newspapers in areas where five-day early morning delivery is not commercially viable. The total funding amounts to slightly under eight million euros, as confirmed by both MTV Uutiset and Yle.
The aid will be distributed across 40 designated areas, with the recipients being Posti Jakelu, Botnia Print, and Tmi Jyrki Ruokamo (MTV Uutiset). The funding period is set to begin in October and marks the fourth consecutive year of such support.
The state aid was introduced following changes to postal services in 2023, when delivery schedules were reduced to three days a week (Yle). The grants aim to maintain newspaper accessibility in regions where commercial distribution is no longer sustainable.
