Flood at Järvenpää elderly care facility after stormwater pipe rupture
A heavy rain shower caused a stormwater pipe to rupture at an elderly care facility in Järvenpää on Saturday evening, leading to significant flooding. The Central Uusimaa Rescue Department confirmed that water spread across approximately 250 square meters, affecting multiple rooms on the first floor and basement of the building.
No injuries were reported in the incident, which was first reported at 6:00 PM. Rescue teams, including four contract fire brigades, responded to the scene and used water vacuums and floor dryers to remove the water. By 8:00 PM, the operation was expected to continue for roughly another half hour (Iltalehti).
The Central Uusimaa Rescue Department attributed the flooding to the broken rainwater pipe, which allowed water to leak into the facility (Ilta-Sanomat). The extent of the damage and the cause of the pipe failure remain under assessment.
