Weekend of Disorder in Kemi and Simo Leads to Multiple Police Interventions
Police in Kemi and Simo responded to a series of incidents over the weekend, resulting in multiple arrests for assault, threats, and drunk driving. The disturbances included altercations in stores, a violent scuffle in Simo, and a chaotic scene outside a Kemi restaurant.
Threatening Behavior in Kemi Stores
A man in Kemi was detained on suspicion of unlawful threat after causing disturbances in two separate stores on Friday morning. Iltalehti reports that the man first attempted to withdraw money from a store, but when the transaction failed, he threatened the salesperson with assault before leaving. Shortly afterward, emergency services received another report of a threatening situation involving the same man at a different store. Police apprehended him near the second location (Iltalehti).
Ilta-Sanomat adds that the man’s behavior at the second store also involved threats, leading to his detention (Ilta-Sanomat).
Violent Altercation in Simo
In Simo, a dispute between two men escalated into violence on Friday evening. According to Ilta-Sanomat, the confrontation took place in the yard of a store, where one man struck the other in the hand with a brush cutter—a tool typically used for clearing thickets. The attacker was detained on suspicion of aggravated assault, while the victim was also taken into custody due to aggressive behavior (Ilta-Sanomat).
Restaurant Fight and Drunk Driving in Kemi
Kemi saw further unrest on Saturday night when a fight broke out outside a restaurant. Iltalehti states that a large group of intoxicated individuals was involved, leading to multiple detentions. One man was arrested on suspicion of assault, while the victim of the attack was also taken to police detention after behaving defiantly toward officers (Iltalehti).
Earlier in the weekend, police in Kemi detained a woman suspected of aggravated drunk driving. Iltalehti reports that she began driving while intoxicated after a night out at a bar (Iltalehti).
Additional Incidents
The weekend’s disturbances were not limited to the above cases. Iltalehti notes that police also responded to an assault in an apartment on Friday evening, where a man was taken into custody on suspicion of assaulting a woman. Additionally, officers intervened in a separate fight outside a restaurant, detaining several individuals for various offenses (Iltalehti).
