Finland is experiencing a week of unsettled weather as a broad low-pressure system dominates, bringing rain showers and cooler temperatures across much of the country. Conditions are expected to gradually improve toward the weekend, with a potential heatwave on the horizon.

Rain Spreads Across the Country

A slow-moving rain area is affecting large parts of Finland, with the most persistent showers expected in the south and east early in the week. Ilta-Sanomat reports that on Monday, rain moved over Uusimaa, Southwest Finland, and Satakunta before shifting eastward, while Eastern Lapland and Koillismaa saw locally heavy rainfall (Ilta-Sanomat). Yle adds that Tuesday will see the most unstable conditions in southern and central Finland, with rain likely throughout the day. The southwest coast and Lapland may see drier spells, with temperatures rising near +20°C in dry areas but dropping below 15°C during rain (Yle).

Winds have also strengthened, particularly in the south, where gusts of 10–15 meters per second are expected. Over the Bothnian Sea, storm-force gusts remain possible (Ilta-Sanomat).

Midweek Shifts and Gradual Improvement

By Wednesday, rain showers will become more frequent in the north, while southern Finland will see fewer but still occasional downpours (Yle). Ilta-Sanomat notes that Tuesday and Wednesday will follow a similar pattern, with temperatures ranging between 15 and 20°C, except in rain-affected areas where they will remain cooler (Ilta-Sanomat).

On Thursday, a low-pressure system over the Baltic Sea will bring rain and thunderstorms to the south and southeast. Elsewhere, conditions will be mostly dry, with sunny spells expected from the west coast to Kainuu (Yle).

Warmer Weather on the Way

Later in the week, high pressure will begin to strengthen, leading to a shift toward sunnier and warmer conditions. Ilta-Sanomat reports that by the weekend, temperatures may reach heatwave levels in some areas, with the possibility extending from southern Finland to Lapland. However, forecasters note that the outlook will become clearer as the weekend approaches (Ilta-Sanomat). Yle also indicates that the warm trend is expected to continue into early next week (Yle).
