Women Begin Voluntary Military Service in Ivalo as Finland Achieves Full Gender Integration in Conscript Units

Women have started voluntary military service in Ivalo’s Border Jaeger Company, marking the first time female recruits have trained at the northernmost garrison in Finland and completing the integration of women across all conscript units in the country. Previously, inadequate facilities had prevented women from serving in Ivalo, but a new barracks building completed in January has enabled their participation—and, as of Monday, eliminated the last remaining barrier to women serving in any Finnish conscript unit (Yle).
