Finland Expands NATO Defence Collaborations with Billion-Euro Procurements, Industrial Partnerships, and Counter-Drone Investments – France Joins Forward Land Forces Battlegroup

Finland has taken significant steps to enhance NATO’s defence capabilities and its own security through a series of agreements signed at the NATO Summit Defence Industry Forum in Ankara on 7 July 2026. The initiatives, announced by Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen, include major procurements, multinational collaborations, advancements in space, Arctic, and maritime defence technologies, and a substantial commitment to counter-drone measures. President Alexander Stubb also announced that France will participate in NATO’s Forward Land Forces (FLF) Finland Battlegroup, marking a further strengthening of Finland’s defence partnerships within the Alliance (Yle). Häkkänen signed 14 contracts in total, most of which were prepared over an extended period (Yle). The agreements are expected to cost Finland hundreds of millions of euros, with these expenses already accounted for in the defence forces’ funding framework (Yle).
