Errors Found in Spring 2026 University Admissions Exam Scoring
The University of Helsinki has identified errors in the scoring of certain tasks in the Spring 2026 C admissions exam, which may impact applicants who narrowly missed the acceptance threshold for their chosen programmes. The exam, held on 4 June, was a joint test for six fields of study: biology, food sciences, geography, forest sciences, agricultural sciences, and geosciences.
According to the university, the incorrect scoring particularly affects applicants whose exam results fell just below the lowest accepted score for their selected programme, as well as those who answered the specific tasks that were misassessed. Details of the affected tasks, including how points were incorrectly calculated and which answers should have earned credit, have been published on the yliopistovalinnat.fi website (Yle).
Olli Ruth, chair of the exam and a university lecturer at the University of Helsinki, issued an apology for the situation. "Applicants who participated in the exam may, if they wish, submit a request for rectification regarding their exam scoring by 16 July 2026, by which time the points for the relevant tasks can be credited to them," Ruth stated. However, he noted that corrections cannot be applied collectively, as programme selections have already been finalised and published (Yle).
The university has contacted all exam participants via email with instructions on how to request a reassessment. The errors do not affect applicants who have already received a study place offer or those who took part in other admissions exams (Iltalehti).
The C admissions exam was part of the second joint selection round for spring 2026, allowing applicants to use a single test to apply for multiple degree programmes across the six fields (Iltalehti).
