Body of Unidentified Person Found in Kruunuvuorenranta as Search for Missing Student Continues
Authorities in Helsinki have recovered the body of an unidentified deceased person from the sea near Kruunuvuorenranta, as part of an ongoing search for a missing Indian student. The National Bureau of Investigation (KRP) is leading the investigation into the cause of death and the identity of the deceased.
The search operation, which involved the Helsinki Police Department, the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard, and a diver from the Border Guard, intensified on Thursday after the student was last seen in the area on May 5. MTV Uutiset reports that the body was discovered in the early evening, prompting authorities to shift their focus toward determining the circumstances surrounding the death.
The missing student, an Indian citizen studying at the Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT), was last confirmed to have traveled from Lahti to Helsinki on May 5, boarding the Z train at approximately 17:00. According to Daily Finland, his last known location was a K-Market in Kruunuvuorenranta at around 20:00 the same evening. The student has been missing since then, with the KRP initially launching a search in early May before resuming efforts this week.
Police are working to confirm whether the recovered body belongs to the missing student. Daily Finland notes that the Embassy of India in Helsinki has not yet been contacted by authorities regarding the case. The KRP has stated that the investigation will continue as a death inquiry, with efforts focused on establishing the identity of the deceased and reconstructing the events leading to their death.
