Finland to Tighten Immigration Rules Under New EU Return Regulation
Finland has launched a legislative project to implement the European Union’s new Return Regulation, introducing stricter measures for detention and entry bans as part of efforts to strengthen the removal of individuals without legal residence in the EU. The reforms, prepared by the Ministry of the Interior, will extend the maximum detention period during the return process to the full duration permitted under EU law and increase the maximum fixed-term entry ban from 15 to 20 years (Finnish Ministry of the Interior; Yle).
