Mysterious Dark Ring in Oulu Sky Linked to Band Pyrotechnics
A strange dark ring observed in the sky over Oulu late Friday evening has been identified as a result of pyrotechnics used during a musical performance. The phenomenon, which puzzled onlookers, was visible for around ten minutes and drew significant attention.
Reports of the unusual formation began emerging after 11:00 PM, with witnesses describing it as a large, slow-moving ring-like structure. Ilta-Sanomat (IS) spoke to Tilda, one of the observers, who described the sight as highly unusual.
"It was quite strange. My friend and I stood there for a long time watching, wondering what it could be," she said. "I haven’t seen anything like it before."
Some witnesses noted that the ring appeared to be surrounded by a mist or haze, drifting slowly across the sky. Iltalehti received video footage from a reader who reported seeing the ring fade away before additional formations appeared.
An explanation for the phenomenon was later provided by Ilta-Sanomat, which linked the dark ring to pyrotechnics used during a performance by the band Kuumaa at the Suomipop Festival in Kuusisaari. According to IS, the cloud created by the pyrotechnics lingered in the sky, forming the unusual shape.
Johannes Brotherus, the band’s singer, reportedly noticed the formation and encouraged the audience to look up. The festival took place on Friday evening in Oulu’s Kuusisaari district.
