Violent assault near Kiasma in Helsinki captured on video
A brutal assault took place in the early hours of Friday morning near the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in central Helsinki, with video footage showing a man being repeatedly kicked in the head as he lay on the ground. The incident occurred shortly after 1:00 AM, following the conclusion of the Morocco-France football match at the nearby Coca-Cola Fan Zone.
According to Iltalehti, the video depicts two men on top of the victim before one of them delivers multiple violent kicks to the victim’s head. Several bystanders are visible in the vicinity. A witness who contacted Iltalehti reported that a group fled the scene after the attack, while others rushed to assist the victim. The witness had been walking home from the fan zone when the violence erupted.
Police confirmed receiving a report of a fight near Kiasma at 1:16 AM, but all individuals involved had already left the scene by the time authorities were notified. Ilta-Sanomat reports that the brawl involved between five and ten people. Police communications stated that no identifying details were available, and since no further reports were made, the case was left pending. "The task was left pending a new report, meaning that if new reports had come in, the police would have addressed the matter," police told Iltalehti.
The incident follows another violent altercation earlier in the week on Mannerheimintie, also in central Helsinki. Ilta-Sanomat previously reported that a mass brawl outside the Apollo Live Club resulted in a man in his twenties being stabbed, suffering serious injuries. The suspected attacker, a man in his forties, was arrested in connection with that incident. Investigating officer Jari Korkalainen noted that tensions had already escalated inside the club before the violence spilled onto the street.
