Police cordon off road in Hanko due to suspected military explosive
Traffic on Koverharintie in Hanko has been temporarily disrupted after a suspected military explosive was discovered near the road. The Western Uusimaa Police Department has cordoned off the area, with the operation expected to last several more hours.
The police have sealed off a section of the road starting from the intersection of Hietaniementie and Koverharintie, extending approximately 600 meters south. Authorities have confirmed that the situation in the area remains calm, and no one is permitted to enter the restricted zone (Helsingin Sanomat).
According to Yle, the explosive was spotted by a civilian, lying about five meters from the roadside. Chief Superintendent Sari Ryyhnänen of the Western Uusimaa Police Department stated that the Defence Forces are expected to arrive on site, as the clearance of potential explosives falls under their jurisdiction.
