Supreme Court rejects Vastaamo hacker’s appeal, police issue arrest warrant
The Eastern Uusimaa Police have issued a wanted notice for 28-year-old Aleksanteri Kivimäki, who was convicted in the high-profile data breach case involving the Psychotherapy Center Vastaamo. The warrant came into effect following legal assistance from the Criminal Sanctions Agency, and Kivimäki is to be arrested upon encounter and transferred to prison to serve his sentence (Yle).
The Supreme Court announced on Monday that it had rejected Kivimäki’s application for leave to appeal, upholding the Helsinki Court of Appeal’s ruling. The court confirmed a prison sentence of six years and 11 months for aggravated data breach, 20 counts of aggravated extortion, multiple attempted aggravated extortions, and several counts of aggravated dissemination of information violating privacy. The Court of Appeal had increased the original sentence handed down by the District Court of Helsinki by eight months (Iltalehti).
Kivimäki’s defense attorney, Peter Jaari, told Iltalehti that he does not know his client’s current whereabouts. Jaari speculated that Kivimäki may be staying abroad. The police have not disclosed further details about the search efforts.
