Three Painters Stranded in Crane for Hours in Parkano
Three painters were stranded in a crane for several hours in Parkano on Wednesday evening after the equipment malfunctioned while they were working on the town’s water tower. The incident left the workers suspended approximately 40 meters above the ground, unable to descend at the end of their workday.
The workers, employed by a painting company, became stuck in the crane around 18:00 when it failed to lower them after completing their tasks on the water tower. Ylä-Satakunta reports that the crane developed an unidentified fault, preventing it from operating properly. By 21:00, the painters had been stranded for about three hours, with no immediate resolution in sight.
Juho Törmä, who arrived at the scene around 19:30, told Iltalehti that colleagues of the stranded workers were attempting to repair a fuse issue in the crane. Based on a video described by Törmä, the crane was positioned near the top of the 40-meter water tower. Despite the prolonged wait, Törmä assessed that the workers remained in good condition.
A second crane was expected to arrive at the site to rescue the painters, though the situation was still ongoing as of 21:00, according to Ylä-Satakunta (Ilta-Sanomat). The workers had been stranded for at least three hours by that time.
