Aggravated Robbery Targets Taxi Driver in Uusikaupunki
Police in Southwest Finland are investigating a suspected aggravated robbery that took place in Uusikaupunki on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred at a rest area along Ukitie, near the border between Uusikaupunki and Laitila, at approximately 19:00.
According to a police press release (Ilta-Sanomat), the victim was a taxi driver who had stopped at the rest area. At the scene, a maroon Volvo S40 without license plates was also present, occupied by two men. The men approached the taxi, with one sitting in the front passenger seat while the other stood by the driver’s door.
The man in the front seat produced a bladed weapon and demanded money from the taxi driver. After obtaining a small sum of cash, the suspects fled the scene in their Volvo, driving toward Uusikaupunki. The taxi driver was unharmed and had no passengers in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Suspect Descriptions
Police have released descriptions of the two suspects based on the taxi driver’s account. The man who threatened the driver with the bladed weapon is described as approximately 190 centimeters tall, stocky, and bearded. He was wearing a white shirt at the time of the incident.
The second suspect is described as slim, wearing a black shirt and loose black trousers (Iltalehti).
