Man on trial for homicide of partner in Espoo
A 56-year-old man is facing trial in the Länsi-Uusimaa District Court in Espoo, accused of killing his 48-year-old partner in a violent assault earlier this year. The case, which has drawn significant attention, began with the discovery of the woman’s body in her Matinkylä apartment in July 2024 (MTV Uutiset).
The victim sustained severe injuries during an incident at their private residence between late February and early March, according to the prosecutor. She died as a result of these injuries at the end of March (Ilta-Sanomat). The man, who has no notable criminal record over the past decade, is charged with homicide after the case underwent multiple reclassifications during the investigation.
Initially treated as a homicide, the charge was temporarily reduced to assault and involuntary manslaughter before being reinstated as homicide during the consideration of charges. The prosecutor filed the final charges in April (MTV Uutiset). The trial commenced on Wednesday at 9:00 AM.
