Motorhome Tips Over in Kuusamo Rest Area, Driver and Cat Rescued Unharmed
A motorhome overturned in a rest area on Kemijärvi Road in Kuusamo on Wednesday afternoon, leaving its driver and a cat trapped inside. The incident occurred after the vehicle began rolling toward a roadside embankment while the driver was using the restroom facilities.
According to the North Ostrobothnia Rescue Department, the driver noticed the camper van moving and attempted to reach the handbrake but was unable to stop it in time. The vehicle rolled into a ditch and tipped onto its side, leaving the driver stranded inside as the door was too high to open (Iltalehti).
Rescue crews arrived at the scene and successfully freed the driver by accessing the vehicle through a roof hatch. Yle reports that firefighters used a ladder to enter the motorhome and assist the driver, who was unharmed. The cat on board also survived the incident, though it was reportedly frightened (Yle).
No injuries were reported in the accident. The cause of the vehicle’s movement remains unclear.
