Large Animal Remains Found Near Railway Line in Kauhava Spark Police Investigation
Police in Ostrobothnia are investigating the discovery of a significant quantity of animal remains near a railway line in Mikkilä, Kauhava, following a report by a landowner in early July. The remains, which include bones and highly decomposed internal organs, have been in the area for an extended period, complicating efforts to identify the species (Iltalehti).
Jasmin Granholm, Communications Specialist at the Ostrobothnia Police Department, confirmed to Iltalehti that the remains likely belong to large animals, though no skulls were found at the site. While the police suspect the remains could be from livestock, other possibilities have not been ruled out. "So far, the animal species has not been identified," Granholm stated.
Police Suspect Criminal Activity
The police are treating the case as a potential crime and are investigating how the remains ended up in the area. Authorities are particularly interested in reports of suspicious activity, including individuals or vehicles transporting animal carcasses or parts in or near Mikkilä. The remains have since been removed from the discovery site (Ilta-Sanomat).
