Man Detained in Vaasa After Bringing Pellet Gun Resembling AK-47 to Restaurant
Police in Vaasa detained a man on Thursday night after he entered a city center restaurant carrying a plastic pellet gun that closely resembled an AK-47 assault rifle. The incident, which occurred between Wednesday and Thursday, prompted multiple emergency reports and led to a swift police response.
A bystander alerted a police patrol monitoring public order at Vaasa Market Square, reporting that an armed man had entered a nearby restaurant. Simultaneously, the emergency center received a similar call about the altercation (Ilta-Sanomat). By the time officers arrived, restaurant patrons had already subdued the man and disarmed him, handing the weapon over to staff (Iltalehti).
The man was taken into custody and transported to a police detention facility. Authorities confirmed that the weapon was a plastic pellet gun designed to look like an AK-47. Police suspect the man of unlawful possession of an object suitable for causing serious injury, an offense that carries a potential penalty of a fine or up to one year in prison (Iltalehti, Ilta-Sanomat).
