Nearly 33,000 Finns risk delayed tax refunds due to missing account details
Nearly 33,000 Finns may not receive their tax refunds on schedule this August due to missing bank account numbers, according to the Tax Administration. The total amount at risk of delay is approximately €2.2 million, with young first-time recipients particularly affected.
Taxpayers must ensure their account details are registered in the OmaVero (MyTax) service by 27 July to receive their refunds on 3 August, when 2.1 million Finns are set to receive a combined total of around €1 billion in refunds. Those who fail to provide their account numbers by the deadline will instead receive a payment order, which can be redeemed at Nordea Bank (Yle, Iltalehti).
Last year, around 23,000 Finns received payment orders due to missing account information (Iltalehti). The Tax Administration does not automatically receive account numbers from banks, meaning individuals must actively submit their details.
While refunds are scheduled for 3 August, taxpayers are advised not to expect immediate deposits. Senior Inspector Juha Villman from the Tax Administration explains that refunds may only be processed during the day, so delays in account visibility are normal (Yle). Those who submit their account numbers after the deadline can expect their refunds approximately one month later.
