Teenager Sentenced to Two Years in Prison for Racially Motivated Knife Attack at Espoo Vocational College, Released Due to Pre-Trial Detention
The District Court of Western Uusimaa has sentenced an 18-year-old man to two years in prison for attempted aggravated assault, assault, and unlawful threat following a knife attack at Live Vocational College in Leppävaara, Espoo, in September 2025. The court determined that the crimes had a racist motive, which aggravated the sentence (Iltalehti). The charge of preparing a serious crime against life or health was dismissed, though the court acknowledged the act was proven. The attacker, identified as Eero Onni Tapio Tuunanen from Vantaa, will now be released as he has already spent more time in pre-trial detention than the duration of his sentence (Yle).
