A peatland fire covering approximately 250 square meters is burning in Oulu’s Sarvisuo district, prompting authorities to issue safety advisories for nearby residential areas. The North Ostrobothnia Rescue Department received an alert about the medium-sized wildfire at 1:55 PM on Thursday (Yle).

Extinguishing and containment efforts are underway, with authorities estimating the operation will take several more hours to complete. Ilta-Sanomat reports that smoke from the fire may spread to nearby homes, with the nearest residential buildings located roughly 300 meters from the blaze.

Residents in the Kivikkokangas and Vaskikangas areas have been advised to close doors and windows, shut off ventilation, and avoid unnecessary movement in the vicinity. The Rescue Department has also issued a hazard warning in connection with the fire (Ilta-Sanomat). The affected terrain is peat-based, which can complicate extinguishing efforts due to its flammability and tendency to smolder underground (Yle).
