Finnish Agriculture to Consolidate into Fewer, Larger Farms by 2035 Amid Cost Crisis

Finland’s agricultural sector is set to undergo significant structural changes by 2035, with the number of farms shrinking while average farm sizes grow, according to a recent survey. The Farm Development Prospects 2026–2035 report by Kantar Agri, published in Maaseudun Tulevaisuus, forecasts that the country will have around 25,000 farms by 2035, down from the current 38,700—a decline of approximately 36% (Ilta-Sanomat). The survey, conducted between March and April 2026, gathered responses from 5,633 farms across Finland (Yle; MTV Uutiset).
