Missing Loviisa Boater Found Deceased After Two-Week Search
The body of a boater who went missing in Loviisa in early July has been found deceased, bringing an end to a nearly two-week search operation. The discovery follows reports of an empty motorboat circling off the coast of Vadholmen on the night of July 4.
The Coast Guard received an alert at 23:38 on July 4 after a motorboat was observed operating autonomously at sea, without a driver (Yle). Authorities immediately launched a search for the missing boater, involving multiple agencies, including the police (Ilta-Sanomat). The body was discovered on Thursday, July 16, after the police received a report via the emergency center (Iltalehti).
Detective Chief Inspector Sanna Rentola of the Eastern Uusimaa Police Department confirmed that the body is connected to the July 4 incident. No criminal activity is suspected in the case, and the investigation will now focus on determining the cause of death, which remains confidential (Yle, Ilta-Sanomat).
The police have not released further details about the incident.
