Fitch Ratings Maintains Finland’s Credit Rating at AA with Stable Outlook

Fitch Ratings has confirmed that Finland’s credit rating remains in the third-highest AA category, with a stable outlook, the agency announced. The decision reflects Finland’s strong economic fundamentals but is tempered by concerns over rising national debt.

According to Fitch, the rating is supported by Finland’s high income levels and its membership in the euro area, which provide stability and resilience. However, the agency highlights that the outlook is overshadowed by the country’s large and growing state debt, a point emphasized in both Fitch’s assessment and subsequent reporting (Yle, MTV Uutiset).

This rating follows a downgrade last year, when Fitch lowered Finland’s credit rating from the second-highest AA+ category. While Fitch now places Finland one notch below its peers, other major U.S.-based credit rating agencies—S&P Global Ratings and Moody’s—have maintained Finland’s rating at the second-highest level (MTV Uutiset).
