Finland Faces Heavy Rain Before Clearing Skies Early This Week
Finland is experiencing a weekend of heavy rainfall, with some regions recording exceptional precipitation levels before a shift toward drier conditions early this week.
Over the past 24 hours, up to 114.1 millimeters of rain has fallen in Karhia, Multia, according to Foreca meteorologist Ilkka Alanko (Ilta-Sanomat). More than ten locations across the country have reported rainfall exceeding 60 millimeters, with rain persisting almost continuously since Saturday. Alanko notes that the heaviest downpours are now moving eastward, particularly affecting areas from Jyväskylä to Kainuu. By Sunday evening, rain is expected to linger only in North Karelia and Kainuu, before shifting toward Russia overnight.
While eastern Finland continues to face wet conditions, the weather is already clearing in the west. Ilta-Sanomat reports that sunshine will return to Western and Northern Finland as early as Sunday morning, with areas around Oulu and Tampere seeing clear skies by midday. The shift follows a northerly wind that is strengthening as the rain system moves east (Yle).
Temperatures on Sunday vary significantly depending on weather conditions. In dry areas, daytime highs will reach 15–20 degrees Celsius, while rainy regions will remain cooler at 10–15 degrees (Yle).
Dry Monday Before New Rain Approaches
Monday will bring dry weather across the entire country, with temperatures stabilizing at 15–20 degrees in most areas (Yle). However, the respite will be short-lived, as new rain systems are expected to approach from the south and northwest on Tuesday. While most of Finland will remain dry, the southeastern regions may see increased cloud cover and possible showers (Yle).
