Smoke from kitchen grill triggers hotel evacuation in Vierumäki
A large-scale evacuation took place at the Holiday Club hotel in Vierumäki, Heinola, on Sunday evening after smoke from a kitchen charcoal grill spread into the lobby and common areas. The incident prompted the rescue department to respond to what was initially reported as a potential large building fire.
The rescue department received an alarm at approximately 7:30 PM regarding smoke at the hotel on Urheiluopistontie. Upon arrival, authorities confirmed that the smoke had triggered the building’s fire alarms, though no actual fire was present. Ilta-Sanomat reports that around 400 people were evacuated from the premises (Ilta-Sanomat).
Hotel staff directed guests outside while rescue crews worked to ventilate the smoke-filled areas. According to the rescue department, the ventilation process was nearly complete by 9:00 PM, allowing units to begin leaving the scene.
