Russian Palladium Refining Fully Relocates to Kola Peninsula Near Finnish Border

Norilsk Nickel, Russia’s largest mining company, is relocating all of its palladium refining operations from Norilsk, Siberia, to Monchegorsk on the Kola Peninsula, just a few hundred kilometres from Finland’s border. The move, effective this month, will centralise nearly 40% of the world’s palladium refining at the Monchegorsk plant, according to the company’s press release (Yle). Yle reports that this marks a complete transfer of Norilsk Nickel’s palladium refining capacity to the Kola Peninsula, ending operations in Norilsk entirely.
