Finnair Flight to Bangkok Returns to Helsinki Due to Technical Fault
Finnair’s Flight AY141, bound for Bangkok, was forced to return to Helsinki on Tuesday after encountering a technical fault shortly after takeoff. The aircraft, an Airbus wide-body jet, departed Helsinki Airport at approximately 14:20–14:30 (Ilta-Sanomat, Iltalehti).
According to Finnair’s communications, the flight did not immediately turn back but instead remained airborne for about an hour over the Gulf of Finland and the capital region. Ilta-Sanomat reports that the aircraft made loops off the coast of Porvoo and circled over Espoo before returning to Helsinki. The delay was due to the need to reduce the aircraft’s fuel load before landing safely (Ilta-Sanomat, Iltalehti).
The flight landed back at Helsinki Airport shortly after 15:40. Finnair stated that a technical inspection would be conducted, with the flight expected to depart again later on Tuesday. "It will probably be able to depart within the next few hours. It depends on how long the technical inspection takes," Finnair’s communications said (Ilta-Sanomat).
The cause of the technical fault remains unknown, though Finnair confirmed that the issue would be investigated before the aircraft’s next departure (Iltalehti). No injuries or further complications were reported.
