Tampere mass stabbing: Defendant sentenced to 9.5 years in combined prison term, barring parole

The trial of a 24-year-old Finnish man accused of stabbing four people near the Ratina shopping centre in Tampere last summer has concluded with the Pirkanmaa District Court delivering its verdict today. Ville-Valtteri Johannes Väänänen was sentenced to 9 years and 6 months of unconditional imprisonment for three counts of attempted murder and aggravated assault, imposed as a combined sentence reserved for extremely dangerous convicts (Yle). Those serving such a sentence cannot be released on parole or conditional release (Yle).
