Live Video Call from Heureka to International Space Station Connects Children with Astronaut
A live video call from Heureka Science Centre in Vantaa to the International Space Station (ISS) will take place this afternoon, allowing children from five European countries to engage directly with a French astronaut. The event, organised by the European Space Agency (ESA), marks the fourth time Heureka has established a live connection with the ISS.
The call is scheduled to begin at approximately 3:45 PM and will last around half an hour. French astronaut Sophie Adenot, currently on her first mission aboard the ISS, will answer pre-selected questions from children on topics related to space and technology. Adenot, who arrived at the station in February 2026 for a nine-month command, will also discuss her work in orbit (Ilta-Sanomat).
The questions were collected in advance from children across five European countries, as part of a broader space-themed event at Heureka celebrating the 20th anniversary of ESA’s science education network (Yle). The event, titled In-Flight Call (IFC), runs from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and includes space-themed workshops, presentations, exhibitions, and planetarium films (Ilta-Sanomat).
Heureka has previously hosted similar live calls with astronauts, including Timothy Kopra of Finnish descent in 2016, Italian ESA astronaut Paolo Nespoli in 2017, and Danish ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen in 2023 (Ilta-Sanomat). Today’s call will be broadcast live from the science centre.
