The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has issued a warning about a sophisticated scam involving fraudulent video calls made in the name of the police, with evidence suggesting the use of deepfake technology. Criminals are impersonating high-ranking officials, including Police Commissioner General Ilkka Koskimäki, to deceive victims into revealing sensitive financial information. The scams first came to light in June, when several reports of such calls were received (Yle).
