Rescue operation at Lahti radio mast concludes after unauthorised climb
A rescue operation at the radio mast in Radiomäki, Lahti, concluded on Wednesday evening after an unauthorised individual climbed the structure. The alarm was raised at approximately 16:30, prompting the deployment of emergency services to the site.
The Päijät-Häme Rescue Department confirmed that the person, described as an adult, had climbed the mast without permission. According to Yle, the individual reached a height of about 25–30 metres before being retrieved. On-duty fire chief Jyri Siren stated that the rescue department successfully brought the person down roughly an hour after the alert (Ilta-Sanomat).
Emergency crews, including three police cars, an ambulance, and the duty fire chief’s vehicle, were present at the scene. Yle’s journalist Jarno Kajova, reporting from Radiomäki, noted that the situation was calm by around 17:00 (Yle). Police are now investigating the incident, as confirmed by Siren (Ilta-Sanomat).
The radio masts at Lahti Radio Hill are both 150 metres tall. No further details about the individual’s motives or condition have been released.
