An electrical railway fault has caused significant disruptions to train services between Hyvinkää and Nummela, affecting both passenger and freight traffic. The damage occurred during the night leading into Thursday, according to Fintraffic (Ilta-Sanomat, Iltalehti).

Fintraffic reports that the railway section between Hyvinkää and Karis will remain disrupted for the entirety of Thursday, with no electric train services operating on the affected stretch. The Hyvinkää–Karjaa line primarily serves freight traffic but also accommodates VR’s summer train between Riihimäki and Hanko (Iltalehti).

Temporary Bus Replacements and Repair Timeline

VR has announced that the 17:30 H-train from Hanko to Riihimäki will be replaced by a bus service between Karis and Riihimäki. Buses will depart from Karis railway station at approximately 18:11 and from the Railway Museum parking lot in Hyvinkää (Ilta-Sanomat).

Fintraffic estimates that diesel rolling stock will be able to operate on the affected section starting from 22:00 on Thursday evening. However, full repairs to the electrical railway are not expected to be completed until 22:00 on Friday evening (Ilta-Sanomat, Iltalehti).

A correction was issued by Iltalehti on 23 July at 13:18, clarifying that the earlier estimate of 07:00 on Friday for electrical repairs was incorrect. The revised timeline confirms that electric train services will resume no earlier than 22:00 on Friday.
