Apartment Fire in Helsinki Leaves One Seriously Injured
A fire broke out in an apartment on Porvoonkatu in Helsinki on Friday evening, resulting in one person being seriously injured. The blaze, which occurred in a fourth-floor unit of a stone residential building at Porvoonkatu 14, was extinguished by the Helsinki Rescue Department shortly before 10 PM, according to Yle.
The injured individual, an adult, received first aid at the scene before being transported for further treatment. The severity of their injuries remains unclear. Iltalehti reports that the rescue department forced entry into the building to rescue the person, with fire chief Markus Frimodig confirming that the door to the burning apartment had to be forced open.
The fire did not spread to other apartments, though some smoke entered the stairwell after the apartment door was closed. Post-incident procedures, including ventilation, are currently underway at the site. Social and crisis emergency services have also been dispatched to assist (Iltalehti).
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The police are working alongside the rescue department to determine the origin of the blaze, as stated by Frimodig. The Helsinki Rescue Department received the emergency alert at 21:21, classifying it as a medium-sized building fire (Iltalehti).
