Passenger car falls onto railway tracks in Vantaa, disrupting train traffic
A passenger car veered off a bridge and landed on railway tracks in Vantaa early Friday morning, causing temporary disruptions to train services on the Ring Rail Line. The incident is being investigated as a suspected case of endangering traffic safety.
The accident occurred on Katriinantie in the Viinikkala district of Vantaa at approximately 5:25 AM, when the rescue department received an alert. According to the Eastern Uusimaa Police Department, the car’s driver survived the incident without serious injuries. Iltalehti reports that the driver was able to communicate at the scene, though a formal interrogation has not yet taken place. Ilta-Sanomat adds that emergency medical services took the driver for further examinations, though no serious injuries were reported.
The driver, described as a working-age man by Chief Inspector Janne Vuorio of the Eastern Uusimaa Police Department, was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Police have ruled out intoxication as a factor and do not suspect the driver of any other crimes. Authorities have also stated that there is no indication the driver deliberately drove off the bridge. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
Train traffic on the Ring Rail Line was halted following the accident but has since resumed. Helsinki Region Transport expects delays to be resolved by around 10:00 AM (Ilta-Sanomat, Iltalehti).
