Finland Investigates Systematic Human Smuggling Linked to Belarus
The Finnish Border Guard is conducting two preliminary investigations into suspected instrumentalized entry facilitated by Belarus, with indications that human smuggling operations may have been systematic.
Senior Lieutenant Jyri Siitari of the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard’s Crime Prevention Unit confirmed the details to STT, stating that third-country nationals are suspected of being assisted in entering the EU via Belarus. One of the identified routes, referred to as the "northern route," passes through Finland and relies on Estonia’s maritime and air traffic connections (Yle).
